Baked Berries

This time of year I love warm comforting fruit pies and crisps.

However, like most people, it gets real easy to start overeating all the sweet treats of fall and before you know it your sugar intake is through the roof and you feel like crap.

This isn't about demonizing sugar at all. However, sugar can have impacts to the gut microbiome and can have lasting effects especially for someone prone to an overgrowth of bad bacteria like myself. Just once a week turns into two then three then before you know it it’s a daily treat. This is unpopular among fitness professionals who say sugar is just a carb and in moderation is ok. Moderation isn't working! If it was, we wouldn't have so many people hooked on sugar trying to quit sugar.

I decided to experiment and have some cooked fruit without the added sugars and flours, and have to say was not disappointed. I tossed some organic frozen berries into a baking dish, tossed a little unsweetened coconut flakes on top, sprinkle of cinnamon and baked it at 375 until they were cooked and bubbly which was 35-40 min.

Amazing pie filling dessert great warm or cold and full of vital nutrients and fiber, but without the added junk and sugars.

It takes about 3 minutes to prep and zero worry of overeating it.


  • 2-4 cups of berries of any kind fresh or frozen

  • 1-3 TBS of shredded coconut unsweetened

  • Cinnamon sprinkle (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 375

  2. Bake in a baking pan for about 34-45 min until the berries are good and bubbly.
